Bindi – its themes and motifs

Aaron, Anna, Archie, Arlo, Baden, Bailey, Barney, Bonnie, Kelanee, Poppy and Sophie worked collaboratively as they brainstormed the themes and motifs of Bindi, written by Kirli Saunders and illustrated by Dub Leffler.

The students identified fire, drought, the black cockatoo, the planting of the she-oaks, family, language and Country as key ideas they wanted to include. These images guided their colour choices of a fiery sky and dry landscape with the flying cockatoo and the she-oaks. The students then added Gundungurra words from the book around the border.

Contributed by the 5/6 students from MARC and their teacher Caitlyn Fisher.
